Containing The Chaos

Cube Organizer | Gray Striped Cubes | Burlap Toy Basket | Small Gray Baskets | Large Gray Baskets | Metal Wall Baskets | You Are My Sunshine Rug | Kid’s Table + Chairs | DIY Farmhouse Baby Gate Tutoria

This room has been a disaster since day 1. I have tried so many different organization systems to no avail. Short of getting custom built-ins ($$$) I felt like there was no end in sight! We have lived in this house for 2 years and I figured what’s the point? They’re just going to play/not clean up so why bother. Honestly the only downfall to this thought process was this: we ended up with WAY more than we need. Without a “system” there were toys that hadn’t been touched in months or even broken that were wasting away in a pile!

Getting a handle on categories is the purpose here. Not to have a “clean” playroom because DOES THAT EVEN EXIST? Knowing what you have can help you reign in the excess stuff or even offer helpful suggestions when someone asks “What does _____ blank need/want for their birthday?”

1.) 12 Cube Organizer:: We modified the top shelf (because one came broken) to fit some bins we already had. This is by far the biggest cube organizer and most useful! Their little fingers can’t get squished!

2.) Metal Wall Baskets:: Other than the great price, these are my ABSOLUTE favorite. They organize books perfectly and I’m sure they would be great for craft stuff, too!

This room does not look like this unless I clean it up which I was also struggling with. I want to teach my kids to respect their things (and each other’s) so I have them somewhat help clean up every few days or every night before bed. It does not happen often, but we try!

Also, this is not a Playroom Decor post… I figure we needed to get a handle on the “stuff” before we add any cutesy stuff! It’s super functional as it is and we are totally happy with it right now. I’ll add Playroom Decor to my list to tackle this summer đŸ˜‰

How To Get Started

If you are ready to tackle your playroom/kid’s area here are a few things to keep in mind as you get started…

1.) DECLUTTER:: get rid of anything broken, with missing parts, or untouched. This could mean donating or packing up some toys to rotate every few months if you feel as though you don’t have an excessive amount of stuff.

2.) CATEGORIES:: This will be your game-changer! I separated our toys into a few different categories with only ONE miscellaneous basket. I know what my kids enjoy and are not interested in so we focused on that!

Good Luck! If this post inspires you to tackle your area, please share your photos with me!
